A distinguished artist, Phan has lived and worked on the Big Island for over two decades, first in Kona, and now in Volcano. Her work has been included in a traveling exhibit organized by the Smithsonian Institution. She has presented lectures and slide shows for university audiences in Hawaii, on the mainland, and at the Colleges of Fine Arts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam.
Phan was twice exiled, first from North to South Vietnam, and later from South Vietnam to the U.S. In 1992 she returned to her homeland after an absence of 23 years. The grief, healing and reconciliation which resulted from that visit are important themes in her art.

Marya Mann, Ph. D., earned a B. A. in English from Boston University and after studying with Joseph Campbell and Jean Houston, received her doctorate from the Union Graduate School in 1986. In her 30-year career in Dance, Yoga, Mythic Theater, and the Psychology of Creativity, she taught more than 20,000 students from Sydney to St. Louis, was a founding member of the Holy Cow! Theater Co. in Colorado, and conducted anthropological research on Pacific Arts and Cultures in Bali, Indonesia, where she performed and taught at the Center for Art and the Future. While on the field faculty of Regis University, she developed the highly successful Renaissance Arts Project for youth-at-risk and started the Lotus Living Arts Center to help solve societal problems through cross-cultural arts.
